One person is dead and three others are injured as an ‘armed and dangerous’ shooter remains on the loose in Atlanta.
The three wounded people in the midtown area of Atlanta, Georgia, were taken to a hospital for treatment. Police are looking for the shooter and other possible victims. The suspect has been named as Deion Patterson, born in October 1998, and his headshot released.
Cops investigated an active shooter around 1110 W Peachtree Street NW shortly after 12.20pm on Wednesday. The public was asked to shelter in place and stay away from the area.
‘We are working an active shooter situation inside a building,’ tweeted the Atlanta Police Department as of 12.42pm. ‘We are aware of multiple people injured. No suspect is in custody.’
Police said ‘the suspect is believed to be armed and dangerous and should not be approached’.
Just after 1pm, police tweeted four images of the suspect ‘still at large’. The suspect appeared to be a man wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, a mask, dark pants and carrying a bag across the front of his body. The photos are believed to be of the shooter based on a preliminary investigation, the police department said.
The address that police provided in the tweet is of the Northside Hospital urgent care and family medicine facility. However, it was not immediately clear if the shooting occurred inside or near the hospital.
‘Anyone in the area is asked to secure their building and shelter in place. Anyone not in the area is asked to stay away,’ tweeted the police department. ‘We will communicate via social media and our website with updates.’
Any information on the suspect should be reported by calling 911.
The shelter-in-place order in midtown was lifted at 3.06pm.
Officers with the Cobb County Police Department searched for Patterson in the Cumberland, Truist Park and Vinings areas.
