Juan Daniel Visagie: Charge against Perth WA dad may be upgraded after his baby’s death

A four-month-old baby who suffered brain damage after her father allegedly shook her has died.

The seriously injured infant was taken to Perth’s Armadale-Kelmscott Memorial Hospital on September 4 shortly before midnight and spent the next few months fighting for life, but she could not be saved.

Juan Daniel Visagie, from Gosnells, was charged with grievous bodily harm at the time and remains behind bars, having previously been denied bail during a court appearance in October.

Police confirmed to NCA NewsWire on Tuesday that they were advised on December 27 about the baby’s death.

“Homicide squad detectives may review the existing charge, pending the outcome of the post-mortem examination and the review of other medical information,” a spokesman said.

On August 7, Mr Visagie posted a photo of himself and his partner on social media to announce the birth of their baby.

“My daughter born five mins ago. Both the mum and daughter are doing well,” he wrote.

“Proud dad/mum right here!”

On August 26, Mr Visagie wrote: “It’s always the best feeling in the world finishing work and coming home to my baby girl. She’s perfect and growing so fast.”
