The 47-year-old driver’s body was discovered near a boat ramp in Queensland.
Two Queensland teenagers have been charged with murder after their Uber driver, who had been missing for a week, was found dead.
Hervey Bay driver Scott Cabrie was found dead near a boat ramp on the Fraser Coast, north of Brisbane, just after 11.30am on Sunday.
Police allege Cabrie was killed by two males, aged 17 and 18, during a rideshare trip last week.
The 47-year-old driver was last seen leaving a Toogoom home at about 6pm on February 6 and was reported missing on February 10.
Friends also raised the alarm on social media, saying Cabrie’s disappearance was “very out of character”.
His burnt-out car was later found near Wieland Rd at Pacific Haven on February 7, sparking a major police search of the surrounding area.
Officers then found Cabrie’s body near the boat ramp on Powerhouse Rd at Howard.
Police will allege Cabrie was called to a residence for an Uber trip, where an armed robbery was attempted, then escalated.
“Police believe it was three people that were picked up, and two of those people have been charged with the murder,” Detective Superintendent Darrin Shadlow said.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested at a Pacific Haven address and has since been charged with one count each of murder, arson and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
Detectives also arrested and charged an 18-year-old Sunshine Acres man with murder, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, arson, armed robbery and deprivation of liberty by unlawfully detaining someone.
The pair have been refused police bail to appear before Hervey Bay Children’s Court on Monday.
Both teens were known to police but neither have been through the court system.
The 17-year-old has been dealt with under the Youth Justice Act and was not on bail at the time of the alleged incident.
Police have interacted with the 17-year-old “a number of times”.
‘Tragic circumstance’
Shadlow would not comment on the locations involved in the Uber trip.
“The addresses are known to us,” he said.
“It’s certainly a tragic, tragic circumstance where a 47-year-old person goes about their business and unfortunately doesn’t come home.”

Officers are asking anyone with information of dashcam footage of a blue 2017 Nissan X-Trail with the Queensland registration 675YVF on Torbanlea Pialba Rd between 11pm and midnight on February 6 to contact police.
