A Kansas City woman allegedly decapitated her 6-year-old son and their dog — then was heard singing loudly as cops arrived at the bloody scene.
Tasha Haefs, 35, was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action after the crazed attack at her home on Indiana Avenue on Tuesday night, Fox 4 reported.
Police responded to the house shortly before midnight after the woman called for help, saying “the devil was trying to attack her,” according to a search warrant cited by the news outlet.
The officers found what appeared to be blood near the entrance and heard Haefs singing loudly when they knocked on the front door, according to the warrant. The louder they knocked, the louder she reportedly sang.
An officer peered inside through a window and noticed the severed head of the child, identified as Karvel Stevens, according to KSHB.

After the cops entered the home through the back door, they found Haefs with blood on her legs and feet, according to documents cited by Fox 4. They also determined that she had cuts on her hands and a puncture wound in the thigh.
No other children were found inside the home, though police learned that three kids were known to live there, according to the outlet.
Haefs told detectives that Karvel, whom she admitted killing, was her biological child, KCTV reported.
“The community now knows some of the terrible details of the death of this 6-year-old child. It takes our breath away,” Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said in a statement
“It’s difficult to imagine the grief for this boy’s family. For the child’s classmates. His friends. Neighbors. The first responders who went to this crime scene,” she wrote.
“This child’s death is a call for something more. Our community must heed the call. Law enforcement, prosecutors, public health officials, social service providers, all of our many partners must work together to address the violence. Strong collaborations are needed to lean into this difficult challenge, and better protect our community’s most vulnerable population, our kids,” the prosecutor added.

Mayor Quinton Lucas said in a tweet: “We don’t yet know why an elementary school aged child was killed this morning, but we understand the pain a family, school, and community are facing.
“May we see that the assailants are swiftly brought to justice and may we resolve to avoid more preventable tragedies like this,” he added.
